The First Republic 1918–1938
The new Czechoslovak crown received heller denominations of 2, 5, 10, 20, 25 and 50 h. Otakar Španiel designed the circulation coinage; the fifty-heller with the linden sprig and ears of grain is among his best-known small works. This era produced the greatest heller rarities — the 5 h 1924 and the experimental 25 h 1932.
The 1953 monetary reform
The June 1953 reform replaced the circulating money practically overnight and brought new aluminium denominations of 1, 3, 5, 10 and 25 h. Collector-watched pieces of the era include the 25 h 1954, 5 h 1955 and 10 h 1958 — all listed as R in the catalogues, with no documented exact count.
The ČSSR 1960–1990
The socialist republic settled the hellers on 5, 10, 20 and 50 h (the 1 and 3 h ended in the early sixties). The fifty-heller of 1963 stayed in circulation for decades — and the 1969 year produced the most famous heller variety of all.
The ČSFR 1991–1992
The last two federal years added a curiosity: the 1 h 1991, 1 h 1992 and 5 h 1992 were struck exclusively for the annual sets — in mintages around fifty thousand pieces. Some sets were later destroyed and the exact number of destroyed coins is not known.
